Life’s full of surprises

30 05 2007

Research has shown that young Americans are clueless about where major consumer brands come from. To think that Nokia is Japanese? How pathetic! Only 4.4% of those asked knew that Nokia is from Finland. Come on guys, life is not only “hey dude, check out my new Nokia cell”. Why don’t you take a minute to look at the box before you open it? This way you might learn something. Oh sorry, my mistake; you know perfectly well how many types of coffee there are at Starbucks. That’s something!

And what about this idiot? Would he do this in his country walking down the road to grab a latte from Starbucks? I don’t think so. This event comes in great contrast to the fact that the Americans are the best tourists in the world after the Japanese. Well, life is full of surpises!!

I watched the latest Desperate Housewives episode (season 3, episode 23) the other day…I was so glad to see Bree again after a long absence. What astonishing revelations: at first you think Bree is pregnant but in fact it’s just a pretence. It’s actually her daughter Danielle who is pregnant and who is sent away to a convent until she gives birth to the baby without anyone knowing. Susan is finally happy tying the knot with Mike. On the other hand, Gabrielle’s fairy tale wedding turns out to be a disappointment for her. And although viewers feel for Lynette’s tragedy, it’s the episode’s ending where emotions really reach a climax: Edie’s suicide. How sad! I think the creators of the series have found a successful formula to keep viewers on tenterhooks by creating a strong finale in each episode. Just amazing series!! I can’t wait for the next episode.

Well…what next? Are we going to penetrate the screen and be able to touch the actors themselves? According to the news, HDTV is not so HD after all. Super hi-vision boasts an insane resolution of 7680×4320. I say, opthalmologists  and opticians will be raving about the cash from their patients!!

Time for some poetry and good deeds

29 05 2007

poetic excellence

I got into a melancholy mood this morning and read a bit of poetry. One of my favourite poems is Do not go gently into that good night  by Dylan Thomas. It’s a sad and powerful poem about the poet’s father dying and his plea for him to defy death like strong men should. A brief analysis of the poem can be found here.

do a good deed today

I just love Wallace and Gromit’s animated stories.

They are both such adorable characters!!

The news is that they have begun a tour around

Britain to present £10,000 cheques to various

children’s hospitals. Read the whole story here

and check out the Wallace and Gromit Foundation

which raises money for good causes.

Everybody knows that an active internet connection can let viruses and spyware infect your system if care is not taken. Besides the programs you currently use on you PC, why don’t you give this web-based application a try? At the time of writing, NanoScan was not available under windows vista… but all you XP users go ahead and give it a shot.
